SAFER INTERNET DAY 2012 in ARMENIA

Safer Internet Day is celebrated annually in Armenia. This year’s Safer Internet Month will be launched on February 07 and will be completed on March 15, numerous events will be held in different parts of the country culminating in Internet Safety Simultaneous Open Lessons in country’s 200 schools. Media Education Center and Internet Society of Armenia coordinate Safer Internet Month 2012 in partnership with Orange Armenia, the National Center of Educational Technologies of the Ministry of Education and Science, Yerevan City Municipality. 

Safer Internet Month 2012 is aimed to provide children and parents, teachers and students with necessary educational materials, highlighting how to use new technologies safely and effectively in their everyday life and apply in learning.

-Teaching module ‘Safe Internet for Teachers’ will be introduced to 200 media educators. 

-Internet Safety Simultaneous Open Lessons will be conducted for 5000 Armenian schoolchildren in Armenia’s 200 secondary schools.

-‘Safer Internet: Connecting Generations’ video clip contest will be organized among secondary school children.

-Safer Internet Day 2012 press conference will be held in Yerevan.

-Safer Internet round tables will be organized in Vanadzor (Lori region) and Ijevan (Tavush region).

-www.safe.am web portal will be re-designed.

-Workshops dedicated to Internet safety and security issues in three regional universities: Gyumri State Pedagogical Institute (Shirak),  Humanitarian Institute of Hrazdan (Kotayk), Gavar State University (Gavar) will be held.

-eSafety Educational Portfolio will be prepared and disseminated among secondary school teachers. 

 -New teaching module ‘Safe Internet for Teachers’ will be introduced in other Armenian schools.

Safer Internet Armenia

Armenia joined the Safer Internet pan-European initiative in 2009. The national Media Education Center initiated the establishment of the Armenian Safer Internet Day Committee (www.safe.am), represented by the Public Council of Armenia, ISOC Armenia, SynopsysMicrosoftPublic Radio of Armenia, Ministry of Diaspora, Bridge of HopeWV Armenia & Armacad.

SAFE.AM informs about benefits and hazards of ICT use through awareness raising campaigns and raising the level of digital literacy, it has links to teaching materials on e-safety and social networking. SAFE.AM provides the visibility of the Armenian Hotline (http://safe.am/hotline.html, phone: (3741- 60272212), and ensures the mechanism for reporting on-line incidents.

SAFE.AM is aimed to 

  • Promote digital literacy in Armenia

  • Improve citizens' safety in relation to digital media

  • Raise citizens' awareness about safe Internet use and their digital rights

  • Promote the protection and education of children and teenagers using the Internet and new on-line technologies

  • Inform about the benefits and hazards of ICT use through awareness raising campaigns and raising the level of digital

  • Advocate incorporation of Internet Literacy into secondary school curriculum

  • Contribute to the development of public policy in the area of citizens’ safe usage of digital technologies and data protection

  • Collect & report about on-line incidents and offensive content to relevant national and international organizations
