Safer Internet Day 2013 - Competition Safer Internet Day 2013 - Competition

***PLEASE NOTE: The Safer Internet Day 2013 competition is now closed - we thank you for your entries.***

“People say that it’s all about the choices we make in our life. Deciding either to support a
great cause or just go with the flow like everybody else.” (Dilyana, 17)

What kind of a story have you got to share? How has the internet helped you to achieve something extraordinary?

Building on our successful Pan-EU Youth Competition in late 2012, this year we will be running a competition for children and young people to tell us about their online achievements.

Often, when we read about current trends in the use of internet and modern media, we are shown the dangers we can encounter when discovering the online world, and taught how we can protect ourselves from them. True, it is important to protect ourselves, but this doesn’t mean that we should lose track of all the good things the internet has to offer us as well!

With our Online Achievements Competition we want to provide young people with the opportunity to share achievements that they have accomplished through using modern media and the internet, perhaps demonstrating their right to be active participants in the online world or their responsibility in influence change as the digital citizens of tomorrow. We are looking for written entries (for example, a short essay or a blog entry) or a video blog (max. 2 minutes) describing your achievement.

Please use your creativity and imagination!

There will be three categories of entry: under 9; 10-14, and over 15, and entries will be accepted online from 5 February – 15 March 2013 inclusive.

Winners in each age category will receive a prize. Older winners (14+) will also have the chance to become an online safety ambassador for the Insafe network or attend the annual Safer Internet Summer School in Romania.

All entrants will receive an electronic certificate (via email after the competition closing date) as acknowledgment of their participation.

***Update: A big thank you to everyone who submitted an entry to the SID 2013 Youth Achievement Competition. Due to the fantastic response received - and the Easter break - we need a little more time for judging. We will get back to you by mid April with results. Apologies for any inconvenience.***
