About our SID activities
For Safer Internet Day (SID) 2023, the BeSmartonline! team which is the Maltese Safer Internet Centre (SIC) will be doing a number of awareness sessions with children and young people and also parents in schools around Malta and Gozo. An information day will be held in Valletta on the 4th February where different activities to celebrate the day will be taking place, amongst them the launch of the Instax campaign. We will be inviting young people to take photos with our polaroid and then we will be discussing onlin safety with them whilst attaching a sticker at the back with online safety tips. A stand for the younger ones in which they can do a sand craft to take with them at home and also behind every card a sticker will be attached with online safety tips. A resource which will be launched on the day will be distributed to parents about how to talk to your teen about pornography. The different consortium members will be present to speak to passers by and those visiting the stand, moreover during the week preceding and following Safer Internet Day, the team members will be participating in different media slots on national television and different radio stations.
The youth panel is working on a video which will be uploaded online both on the website and on social media and which will be sent to all schools in Malta and Gozo as part of the circular to participate in SID activities on the day.
The Safer Internet Centre will also be participating in a careers fair taking place from the 30th January up till the 2nd February in which almost 30000 students will be reached and those visiting the stand will be encouraged to participate in the activities that the SIC is organising for Safer Internet day 2023.
What we are doing to support the SID 2023 slogan of "Together for a better internet"…
The involvement of the young people through the contribution of the youth panel in doing the video for Safer Internet Day and also the organisation of the Information day where we will be meeting people of all ages stresses the point that we need to be all "Together for a better Internet".
What we are doing to mark the 20th anniversary of Safer Internet Day…
We will be doing this year's celebrations on a bigger scale, as we are doing more outreach especially through our particiaption in the Careers fair which will be visited by almost 30,000 students and through the info day taking place in Valletta which will hopefully attract many visitors since the Safer Internet Centre is planning many activities for the day.
