Serbian Safer Internet Day Committee
About our SID activities
The Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications of the Republic of Serbia is traditionally taking part in marking the Safer Internet Day. For this year, the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications is going to organise a panel discussion for Belgrade University students on the topic "Internet addiction" which will take place at the Startit internet hub, on 11 February 2020.
Also, the Ministry has prepared an online campaign which shares messages from public figures who are well-known to children and young people, advising them on the smart and safe use of modern technologies. The media will promote the event in order to make the general public interested in the field of safe use of the internet.
As a partner of the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications of the Republic of Serbia, within the marking of Safer Internet Day 2020, the Tijana Juric Foundation plans to organise an online quiz for children on the topic of internet safety - risks, dangers and prevention and protection mechanisms. Children who answer all the questions as soon as possible will be symbolically rewarded. In addition, the Foundation will organise a workshop intended for children with disabilities. The topic will be child abuse on the internet, human trafficking and peer violence with a focus on the internet as the means by which the above forms of violence against children are executed, with advice on how children with disabilities and disabilities can be protected from them.
What we are doing to support the SID 2020 slogan of "Together for a better internet"…
In accordance with the Decree on the safety and protection of children in the use of information and communication technologies, adopted by the Ministry at the session of the Government of Serbia on 30 June 2016, a National Contact Centre for Children's Safety on the Internet was established.
Through this centre, the Ministry conducts counselling for children, parents, students and teachers, as well as other citizens, about the advantages and risks of using the internet and promoting safe ways to use new technologies. The centre equally receives reports about harmful, inappropriate and illegal content and behaviour on the internet which violate children's rights.
The Ministry equally organises the "IT Caravan" each year. The "IT Caravan" is an educational campaign promoting useful, creative and safe use of information technologies. The IT caravan is part of the "Smart and Safe" platform, which promotes the advantages of using the internet and new technologies in education, business and communications, as well as the dangers resulting from their improper use.
The Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications has launched a platform for the development of the information society, under the slogan "Smart and Safe". The aim of this initiative is to educate and raise awareness about the necessity of timely, appropriate and directed involvement of citizens, the education system and the economy in the modern digital streams.
The platform runs educational and promotional projects that develop digital literacy skills, digital skills and foster a culture of online safety among Serbian citizens.
Particular attention is given to projects aimed at younger generations, women and persons with disabilities. Programmes are also encouraged to support the IT community, the IT industry, and the application of ICT in the economy, the development of IT human resources and employment in this sector.
"Smart and Safe" is based on the priority activities highlighted by the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications:
- Connect the sector of information society and electronic communications to the development of information and communication infrastructure in education and the economy.
- Build a national broadband network.
- Improve legislation in these areas.
