About us
SaferNet is the first-ever NGO in Brazil to establish a multistakeholder approach to protect human rights in the digital environment. It created and has coordinated since 2005 the National Human Rights Cybertipline, the National Helpline and the Brazilian awareness node, and has more than 17 years of experience in capacity building programmes with educators, young people, legislators, policy makers and social workers. It is leading the debate on online safety and well-being in many national and international fora. In 2013, it launched the Youth Program during the Brazilian IGF (Internet Governance Forum). In 2015, during the IGF in Joao Pessoa, the Youth Program was expanded under the auspices of the Internet Society (ISOC) and the Brazilian Internet Steering Committee (CGI.br), in a partnership with Google and Intel. Since 2020 runs a program to strengthen peer-to-peer education on digital safety through the Digital Citizen Program, which has trained more than 130 young people and impacted more than 160,000 teenagers in Brazil. SaferNet has formal signed agreements with the Ministry of Human Rights, General Prosecutor's Office and many companies in the private sector.
SID Brazil has been coordinated by SaferNet since 2009 in a close partnership with the Brazilian Internet Steering Committee (CGI.br), the Brazilian Network Information Center (NIC.br), UNICEF, the Federal Prosecutors Office and, in 2023, has support from Google, Youtube, Meta, TikTok and Vivo.
