European Coding Initiative

Last updated: 2021-02-07

About our SID activities

The European Coding Initiative supports campaigns and initiatives that fall within its remit, such as Safer Internet Day (SID). During this year's SID, we aim to disseminate news and information through our communication channels and social media.

What we are doing to support the SID 2021 slogan of "Together for a better internet"…

We believe young people and digital citizens in general should first of all change their perception about technology and the internet. By acquiring skills and competences to use, personalise and create digital content, everyone can take a more active and responsible role within their digital society and contribute to its wellbeing and continuous improvement.

About us

The European Coding Initiative, or ‘all you need is {C<3DE}', brings together a wide array of stakeholders to promote coding and computational thinking at all levels of education, as well as in more informal settings. The project was created in June 2014 under the auspices of the European Commission, and is supported by partners from the technology industry. The initiative also involves not-for-profit organisations involved in the promotion of coding and computer science education, and its ultimate aim is to empower citizens to become digital creators.

The aim of the campaign is to promote coding through a mixture of online and offline, real-life activities, with a view to establishing coding as a key competence within every education system in Europe. The all you need is {C<3DE} website provides resources in a number of languages, catering to everyone from the youngest coders, to pedagogical resources and lesson plans for teachers, to industry training and certification for professionals.

The European Coding Initiative will play a central role in a number of Europe-wide advocacy and awareness-raising campaigns, including Europe Code Week, Computer Science Education Week and the Digital Skills & Jobs Coalition.
