About our SID activities
We are awaiting an update on this SID Supporter's plans for Safer Internet Day 2019. In the meantime, please see information on its previous SID celebrations below...
Our efforts include reinforcing the Safer Internet Day (SID) mission by creating more awareness through our various marketing channels of a safer and more secure online environment that empowers creativity, secure sharing and privacy. Online safety for our children is as easy as ABC - Avasts Blocks Cybercrime.
At Avast, our technologies and products help give parents peace of mind while helping to educate children with important safety tips and information. We encourage talking to your kids about online security. Children of all ages - as well as your spouse, parents, siblings, and friends - would benefit from a conversation about how to use connected toys, IoT (Internet of Things) devices and mobile devices in a way that safeguards their privacy and security.
For Avast, the word together is key. Together as a community, we are stronger, our voice is stronger and while coming together with various companies and organisations serving a common cause and mission, we achieve more.
Avast has a significant global presence and is headquartered in Prague, with offices around the world including London, Munich and the San Francisco Bay area.
What we are doing to support the SID 2018 theme of "Create, connect and share respect: A better internet starts with you"…
Avast is working on various initiatives in conjunction with universities and schools to educate parents and students on how to stay safe and private online.
Our key efforts include:
- To help keep children and teens safe online, Avast put together a free eBook, What Grown-ups Need to Know About Online Safety for Kids.
- BeSafeOnline is a local educational and noncommercial project primarily aimed at children in the Czech Republic. Avast joined forces with the most popular Czech YouTuber Jirka Kral and together they are visiting elementary schools and organising workshops for children (age 9-14) focused on online safety. The project is recognised and supported by Czech Ministry of Education and will launch in March 2018.
- Avast supports the curriculum for the growing Cybersecurity Pathway at Magnolia High School, a Southern California school in the Anaheim Unified School District (AUSHD) for the 2018 school year by donating 80 BOE-Bots for students for use in robotics' instruction.
- Avast CEO Vince Steckler is an Executive Committee member of the UC Irvine Cybersecurity Policy and Research Institute supporting legal, policy and technological solutions to combat cyber threats while protecting and enhancing individual privacy and civil liberties.
- Avast launched its newest community outreach initiative, Avast Scholar, by establishing a cooperation with the Faculty of Information Technology (FIT) at the Brno University of Technology. The FIT is among the leading Czech institutions training students and researchers in Computer Science and Engineering.
- Avast participates in hackathons across the world, and most recently sponsored the Hack Cambridge, an annual tradition organised by Cambridge University and one of the UK's most prestigious and popular hackathons.
- One of our fundamental values as a company is to give back to the community. Our Foundation is a manifestation of those values and is dedicated to creating programmes that support education, social services and those in need.
