About our SID activities

INTERPOL works with a range of public and private stakeholders to make the internet a safer place for everyone, especially children, through the encouragement and development of robust law enforcement practice and prevention strategies.

What we are doing to create a better internet…

The global reach and anonymity of the internet have greatly facilitated the distribution and access to child sexual abuse material. Offenders produce, exchange and even direct live video of children being abused. They can also come into direct contact with children via chatrooms and social networking sites.

INTERPOL is fiercely committed to supporting its 196 member countries in tackling crimes against children.

Our International Child Sexual Exploitation database has already led to the identification of more than 35,900 victims worldwide.

We provide training, promote best practices to police in our member countries, and gather experts in the INTERPOL Specialists Group on Crimes against Children.

In 2019, with funding from Safe Online, we joined forces with ECPAT International and the UNICEF Office of Research – Innocenti for Disrupting Harm, a large-scale research project generating unique insights on how online child sexual exploitation and abuse is manifesting around the world, providing tailored roadmaps for countries to strengthen their prevention and response systems.
