About our SID activities

To mark this  year’s  Safer Internet Day, CERT-MU has collaborated with Cyber4Dev to organise the following activities. 

  • A train the trainers’ workshop for Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation officers and youth ambassadors on Cyberbullying, Sexting, Online harassment and a media training was conducted by Mrs. Sylvia Beamish from Cyber4Dev from 10 – 11 January 2023. The main objective of this workshop was to train the Youth Officers and the Youth ambassadors so that they can disseminate presentations and talks on online harassment and cyberbullying in their respective Youth centres around the country. The participants were also provided with the necessary materials that they can further customize to disseminate these talks and presentations. Some 20 participants attended the session.  
  • A train the trainers’ workshop was organised for the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family Welfare officers from 12 – 13 January 2023 on Cyberbullying, Sexting, Online harassment and Online scams. The training was conducted by Mrs. Sylvia Beamish from Cyber4Dev, Mr. Manish Lobin from CERT-MU and Mr. Toorab from the Cybercrime Unit of the Mauritius Police Force. It is expected from this workshop that the participants will in turn conduct awareness sessions for women and girls around the country on the topics that were discussed.  Some 35 participants attended the workshop. 
  • An online workshop for public and private secondary school teachers on Cyberbullying was also planned on the 26th January 2023 which was delivered by Mrs. Sylvia Beamish from the Cyber4Dev Project. The aim of this workshop is to outreach a maximum number of youngsters in the area of Online Safety by empowering the teachers who are in return expected to transfer the acquired knowledge to their students. 
  • It is also planned to launch a video competition in collaboration with Mauritius Film Development Corporation on 7th February 2023. Youngsters will be invited develop a video on the theme of cyberbullying and winners will be awarded with prizes.
  • A video clip will also be produced on the theme of Online Harassment and same will be disseminated to the general public through media channels. This will allow a greater number of people to be sensitised on this particular online issue. 

What we are doing to support the SID 2023 slogan of "Together for a better internet"…

This year, CERT-MU is collaborating with different stakeholders to promote the safe use of the Internet. These stakeholders include Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation, Ministry of Gender Equality and Family Welfare and the Ministry of Education, Tertiary Education, Science and Technology. Train the trainers' workshops have been organised for officers of these Ministries so that they in turn can disseminate the knowledge they have acquired. 
 

What we are doing to mark the 20th anniversary of Safer Internet Day…

This year's SID will be having a sustainable National level campaign conducted throughout the island of Mauritius which will be a continuous promotion of Internet Safety for kids, adults, senior citizens, house wives, parents etc. 

About us

CERT-MU, a department operating under the aegis of the Ministry of Information Technology, Communication and Innovation is responsible to drive the Child Safety Action Plan endorsed by the government since October 2009. One of the major activities under the plan is the organisation of the Safer Internet Day  (SID) by CERT-MU on a yearly basis. Awareness sessions on the areas of online safety is then carried out in schools for students and ICT teachers and also in Women Community Centres throughout the year.
